About the role
You’ll play an integral role in ensuring the serviceability of the Royal Navy fleet through detailed maintenance and refit periods by working within multi–trade teams. You’ll remove, install, repair and maintain marine mechanical systems and equipment on board ships and submarines.
You’ll remove, overhaul and install a variety of mechanical equipment which could include hydraulics, weapons, water and fuel systems and LP/HP air, among other assets. Working to engineering drawings and technical specifications, you’ll also in install and align new equipment and carry out system and equipment functional tests and surveys.
What do I need to do the role?
You’ll have the ability to read engineering drawings to interpret work instructions and be competent in the use of general workshop machinery specific to mechanical fitting.
Ideally will have worked in the marine industry with experience of Royal Navy ships and submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels or large commercial ships although other relevant experience will be considered.
You’ll need to hold qualifications in at least one of the following:
- Indentured Apprenticeship
- Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline
- Armed Forces PO/CPO/NCO with mechanical specialisation
- Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification
About the role
You’ll play an integral role in ensuring the serviceability of the Royal Navy fleet through detailed maintenance and refit periods by working within multi–trade teams. You’ll remove, install, repair and maintain marine electrical systems and equipment on board ships and submarines.
You’ll overhaul and install a variety of electrical equipment which could include distribution, command and control systems covering a wide remit including unique assets such as weapons, Navigation and communication systems, among others.
You’ll also install and connect a variety of cabling, carry out system and equipment functional tests as well as work to electrical/engineering drawing and technical specifications.
What do I need to do the role?
You’ll have the ability to read electrical and engineering drawings to interpret work instructions and be competent in the use of general workshop machinery specific to electrical fitting.
Ideally will have worked in the marine industry with experience of Royal Navy ships and submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels or large commercial ships. Other relevant experience will be considered.
You’ll need to hold qualifications in at least one of the following:
- Indentured Apprenticeship
- Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in an electrical discipline
- Armed Forces PO/CPO/NCO with electrical specialisation
- Level 3 Electrical Engineering qualification
About the role
You’ll play an integral role in ensuring the serviceability of the Royal Navy fleet through detailed maintenance and refit periods by working within multi–trade teams. You’ll ordinate structural alterations and repairs on board ships and submarines.
Working to engineering drawings and technical specifications, you’ll manufacture structural modules, fabricate and alter structures in a variety of metals and thickness and you’ll carry out surveys and pre-refit examinations of bulkheads and marine structural systems.
What do I need to do the role?
You’ll have the ability to read engineering drawings and interpret work instructions, be competent in the use of hand held oxy–fuel burning tools and general workshop machinery and tools specific to fabricating (grinders, disc cutters, guillotines and band saws)
Ideally will have worked in the marine industry with experience of Royal Navy ships and submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels or large commercial ships although other relevant experience will be considered.
You’ll need to hold qualifications in at least one of the following:
- Indentured Apprenticeship
- Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in a sheet metal, structural steel or fabrication related discipline
- Level 3 Engineering qualification relevant to the role
About the role
You’ll play an integral role in ensuring the serviceability of the Royal Navy fleet through detailed maintenance and refit periods by working within multi–trade teams. You’ll work on structural alterations and repairs on board ships and submarines.
Building structural modules from engineering drawings and technical specifications, you’ll be competent to align and prepare the weld joint and then weld structural seam to a specified weld procedure. You’ll also carry out surveys and pre-refit examinations of bulkheads and Marine structural systems.
What do I need to do the role?
You’ll have the ability to read engineering drawings and interpret work instructions and be proficient in the use of general workshop machinery and hand tools such as the use of grinders, guillotines and band saws. You will be competent with weld processes such as MMA, MIG Flux-core and TIG (in mainly carbon steel and stainless Quality tested at either Lloyds or EN287) and have the ability to use basic gouge and edge preparation through grinding.
You’ll also have at least one of the below qualifications:
- Indentured Apprenticeship
- Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in a sheet metal, structural steel or fabrication related discipline
- Indentured or Level 2/Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in Fabrication & Welding.
Other relevant qualifications will be considered.
You will also need to have experience in the following areas:
- A proven track record of completing work to time, cost and quality parameters.
- Ideally will have worked in the marine industry with experience of Royal Navy ships and submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels or large commercial ships. Other relevant experience will be considered.
About the role
Working on reactor systems and equipment associated with the power plant for Royal Navy nuclear submarines, you’ll provide hands on engineering support within a multi-skilled team environment. You’ll remove, install, repair and maintain reactor systems and equipment on board submarines and in dedicated workshop facilities.
You’ll be required to work within the reactor compartments of submarine and work within controlled radiation environments while equipped with specialist PPE. Working to engineering drawings and technical specifications, you’ll overhaul, install and test a variety of mechanical and electrical equipment associated with submarine reactor systems which could include lighting, distribution, command and control systems, fluid systems, valves and pumps among other things.
What do I need to do the role?
You’ll ideally have relevant nuclear experience either directly with submarine reactor systems and equipment or within the nuclear power generation industry. Experience in the marine industry with Royal Navy submarines, ships, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels or large commercial ships is desirable.
Additionally, you’ll need to hold at least one of the following qualifications:
- Indentured Apprenticeship
- Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in an electrical or mechanical discipline
- Armed Forces PO/CPO/NCO with an electrical or mechanical specialisation
- Level 3 Mechanical or Electrical qualification
What else do I need?
- Cleared to SC security level (can be applied for if not held).
- Already registered/ willing to become a registered radiation worker
- Willing to undertake specialist onsite training relevant to role.
About the role
You’ll play an integral role in ensuring the serviceability of the Royal Navy fleet through detailed maintenance and refit periods by working within multi–trade teams. You’ll move, support and reposition materials and equipment to facilitate structural alterations and repairs on board ships and submarines.
Working safely in a maritime environment, you’ll inspect lifting equipment to ensure its fit for use, work with fixed and mobile cranes to move equipment on docksides and through shipping routes and access holes. You will also transfer equipment within vessels using chain blocks and fleeting techniques.
Lifting within the dockyard is an essential service and developing the skills unique to the Naval Base is very important. As part of this role you will be required to support the development of trainee’s skills and learning.
What do I need to do the role?
You’ll be competent in the general use of lifting equipment and tools related to the role, such as the use of fixed gantry (overhead traveller) cranes, spreader bars, plate clamps and chain blocks. You’ll also hold current qualifications in one of the following:
- ECITB Level 3 NVQ in Moving Constructive/Engineering loads
- OPITO Level 3 Slinger/Signaller
- NPORS N402 – Slinger/Signaller
- CPCS A40 Blue Card
Other relevant qualifications will be considered
You will also need to have experience in the following areas:
- Ability to read and interpret lifting instructions.
- Proven track record of completing work to time, cost and quality parameters.
- Ideally will have worked in the marine industry with experience of Royal Navy ships and submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels or large commercial ships although other relevant experience will be considered.
