Western Europe’s largest naval base
Comprising of both a naval base and a dockyard, Devonport is home for numerous surface vessels and is the only licenced site in the UK for refitting and fuelling nuclear-powered submarines.
Babcock, as support partner to the MOD and co-owner of the site, provides through-life support for submarines, surface ships and associated systems and equipment. Ensuring that both the Royal Navy and Babcock have the right facilities and infrastructure to deliver their role is essential, and as such we need engineering professionals to sustain and develop Devonport into the future.

Ready for the future
Devonport has recently been selected as the base port for the Navy’s new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme, including the Astute and Dreadnought class.
As a result, Babcock is embarking on a significant infrastructure transformation programme that will take thirty years to complete and revolutionise the way the Royal Navy is supported.
Although exciting, the programme will present multiple challenges; building nuclear-standard facilities adjacent to an operational nuclear site, working within a site of historic importance and industrial legacy, and all within an environment where the Royal Navy must always come first.
